Wondercon 2013

Where do I start?! There's so much!

M a r c h  29, 2013  | Friday | Day 1

That morning around 9:15 I waited outside Chris's apartment for them to come down. We arrived around 11ish. Check in wasn't until 3PM, but we tried out luck and failed. She said to come back around 1PM. We got our parking pass and split for breakfast. IHOP! :D

I'm sad we don't have one around here. Or at least within 10 minutes of driving. Delicious!

We were there for a bit and headed back about a quarter til one. We still couldn't check in, so we just split for the convention and get our passes. BOY WAS IT CROWDED.

So cooooool

This guy's Ganon cosplays were amazing. I think I have a new cosplay crush.

YOU GUISE. IT'S CHEWBACCA.

I saw Pedobear.
Logically, I had to go up to him and kiss him. Duh

Yup, total crush on him.

This little kid was bad ass. I swear he pulled out every pose ever done in the Star Wars universe and WORKED IT.

And that's when my phone died.
We hung out a bit outside and as it got dark, we went to Denny's to go eat. Then back to our hotel. SORE FEET.

I love this shirt so much omg.

M a r c h  30, 2013  | Friday | Day 2

We woke up and headed back around 10ish. Trent was all about panels that day, while Chris and I wandered around looking for loot, (and for Harley's Joker). One of the first cosplays I saw that morning caught my eye and made me think of my dad.

El Chapulin Colorado! He's from a vintage Mexican comedy show. My parents and I used to watch it all the time when I was little. My dad loves it. When I saw him, I squeaked with joy and showed as much appreciation as I could that he was there. It was awesome!

...RIGHT?!

Cubone! ^_^

CUUUUUUUUUUUUTE

Those guys are awesome. They really commit to their characters!

you guise it's fucking BILLY, THE BLUE RANGER.

 IIII'M SOOO HAPPPYYY

 MMPF!

Look who it iiissss!

I found him! I waited a little bit before I approached him. Everyone and their brother was trying to go in an capture him. At this Con he was here with Harley Quinn! They've worked on the costume for a few months now. The detailing was really cute ^_^

He told me that he saw me on Friday, when they were out of costume, and he said hi to me. I didn't hear/see him! D'oh! I was actually looking forward to seeing him on Friday. Oh well! YAY SATURDAY HELLOS

Can I keeeeep him?

^_^

GUESS WHO ELSE I SAW?!

Kent! Bar Sinister's MC. It's funny, we run into each other every now an then at the weirdest places. IT'S SO SURPRISING THAT WE FOUND EACH OTHER HERE.
JK, no it's not. haha <3 br="">

LOVE HER. I saw her walk by at the food court and my jaw dropped to the ground and died.
Then I found her again! ^_^

Professor Putricide thinks I'm beautiful ^_^ heheheheheheeh!
 eeeeeee! ^____^

 GIR
SQUEE
I like him. He's awkward ^_^

He was cosplay Ganon from Wind Waker. le sigh

 Yup. Crushing.

So... these guys were there. They caused a lot of commotion and at one point, some chick flashed her boobs.  I felt bad for them because people started getting really obnoxious. Like there was this one chick who kept yelling out something about a spaghetti monster. It was more like shrieking. Over and over and over again. People were shouting other things, and it just became this loud, obnoxious environment for a little while that was just as off-putting as the sign holders.

This guy looked really cool. He said I looked familiar. No idea!

After a while we went back to the hotel and napped. The masquerade was at 9 I think, so we headed back there to check it out. It was basically a costume contest, but only cosplayers that hand made their costumes could enter. It was pretty neat.

We didn't stay long after they were all called out. Chris was sore, and we were hungry. So we split.

Denny's.

M a r c h  31, 2013  | Friday | Day 3

The Deadpools were hilarious all weekend.

I love them, lol.

 I remember you!

I took this one for Autumn.

 SIGH.

He asked me a riddle! I probably answered it wrong, but I got a free t-shirt out of it! :D

Best taco stand ever. mmmpf

Oh, internet...

D'awww.. I messed this up. The sun made it difficult to see what I was aiming at. OH WELL THEY'RE ADORABLE.

There were a group of chill dudes that were having a discussion with one of the 'missionaries' and everyone was respectful of each other. It was good brain food.

He hit on me when I asked to take their picture, to be part of the community! WEIRDO.
jk, idgf.

The eeennnd....

This con I came prepared with savings! lol
It was cool though, and I was glad to support the amazing artists that set up there. Now I just need to get some frames to hang up all this awesome stuff!

Those are the ones Chris got, lol. :(
Aren't they adorable!?

It was such an amazing weekend. I'm sad it's over but so so happy to have all these memories! I'm glad to be home, and I sort of am looking forward to work again. I also have commissions and more charmsies I wanna finish, so woohoo!

As far as San Diego Comic Con goes... I can't go. I'd love to go, but the tickets have all sold out, and they are being scalped for far too much money :(
It's unfortunate... but on the bright side, it gives me time to design and maybe put together a cosplay all of my own for next year! We'll see :D

San Franny

For readers who don't know, I used to live in San Francisco from 2008-2009. The reason I left was to be supportive of Rot rejoining Psyclon Nine (and we were offered somewhere to live, no deposit, considerably cheaper). It's extremely expensive to live in SF. To move back I'd have to have a bunch of roommates, or just live in a shitty part of SF. Neither one really has me rushing back.

My friend from High School moved there recently, who I saw on my last visit to PA a year ago. It was a great excuse to re-visit SF, haha. And to see him again, of course! :P AND SO I DID. We went halfsies on the plane tickets and I marched my ass into that airport and dealt with it.

That's Jordan. Weirdo.

I arrived late actually, Friday evening, because I had missed my flight. Well, I actually didn't, but I arrived a few minutes too late to check in. It was obvious to me the guy at the counter was enamored with me, and fortunately, of his own accord, gave me a nicer spot on another flight free of charge. No complaints. Unfortunately, he spent a lot of time talking to me and conveniently messing up the tickets, but I guess it was a small price to pay to arrive in SF before it got too late.

I had a connecting flight in San Diego. No problems with TSS in LA, but SD somehow saw something LA didn't and opened up my bag to check it out. Turned out to be a clutter of quarters in a smaller compartment that they thought was a gun or something. -__- actually I don't know that for sure, but that's exactly where they checked it.
The weekend there pretty much consisted of almost nothing but going out to eat/drink and socialize. Which is weird to me because I do everything but. I was introduced to some of his peers, who were friendly and not douchebaggy- always appreciated. I also learned how to play Netrunner! It's a two player game. Two factions: One's defensive, one's offensive. If the defensive side exposes the offensive side before offensive infiltrates defensive, Defense wins. And vise versa. But it's Corporations vs. Hackers themed. Very strategic and fun.

Ted is a pro Netrunner-er. He was coaching me against Jordan.
Also, dreadstaches.

While I was there, already the atmosphere felt friendlier. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like people in SF are just all around nicer and friendlier than people in LA, who to me always seem to be in a rush and feel they're too attractive to care about anyone else.

Mateo and Irakli (left) both from outside the states, and Jordan. Irakli got really drunk that night, and I regretfully publish these without any footage of his hilarious stupor, complete with a Georgian accent and broken English. While we were on our way out to look for our taxi, Arakli walked out into the walkway, on his phone with the cab driver, as the light turned green. He was standing in the middle of traffic waving his arms in the air as cars drove around him.
Mateo and I were on the other side of the intersection shouting frantically, while Jordan helplessly watched from another corner, just then realizing that Irakli has wandered off into traffic. The whole cab ride back was mostly Irakli spouting random nothingness and thoughts, followed by "is fucking assole!"

When neared his street, it was an uphill drive with no parking spots on either side. He didn't like the street. "This street is fucking assole street!" The cab driver just laughed understandingly. It got real quiet when he left, haha.

GDC was also about to start that week, so Jordan took us to meet up with some of his peers from Philly who were attending GDC. I felt out of place, but had a full tummy and was content.

Other than that, we didn't do much. Like I said, we just went out to places and played Netrunner. Oh, apparently IPA's make me sick. I hadn't eaten all day and I had two of them = me throwing up. Never again. I don't know anything about beers, but they were suggested to me and it tasted better to me than some of the other stuff I've had. Nope. Never again. Also I think I forgot my belt at one of the spots we were at. :(

Those garlic fries were so good.

Anywho, SF was a nice escape. It made me nostalgic and really miss living there. One day, maybe. Not just yet, though.

Bats

Last night I had a blog entry half-way finished- that is until I hit backspace and lost everything before saving. Boo... however this entry will have a bit of a revised beginning.

I burned my hand at work this morning! It's way better now, and there's very little trace that it happened, save for some pink splotching and a little bit of swelling. My co-workers were so good to me this morning.
The brewing basket for the coffee was clogged by something, so the water overflowed and there was a mess of grounds everywhere. Once it stopped brewing, I pulled it out without thinking and the 200 degree water + coffee grounds spilled onto my hand with delicious abandon. I wanted to hold onto it so as to not spill it on the floor but I couldn't :( I dropped the brew basket on the floor, made an even bigger mess, all the while exclaiming in agony. Burning to death must suck really bad. N, one of the two other people who were there said to immediately put my hand under cold water. She was so nurturing to me. Then at 4:30, D showed up who also made sure I was comfortable and not so much in pain. I stopped running the water and went to the back to look for the burn salve, and started crying lol. It hurt like shiiiiiiiit. D followed me back there and comforted me, helped me look for the salve and was super motherly. The salve helped temporarily until I walked back out onto the floor where the temperature was hotter, so my hand would burn again. A, the supervisor suggested I go outside where the air was cooler, which I did and helped quite a bit. Then came back inside, where D gave me some ice wrapped in a cold towel. I sat in the back room for two hours with that towel on my hand until boss lady showed up. Spent some more time nursing it until it stopped burning without the towel. Went back on the floor for 10 minutes when the burning started again. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand eventually I was sent home because I was useless, especially with goop all over my fingers.

So THAT was my morning. I got home around 7:30 and woke Rot in the process. I was hoping to just sleep off the pain and when I'd wake up it'd be dry and healed enough to ignore it. Nope! I got in bed and the body heat under the covers made the burning return. I applied some toothpaste and wrapped it in plastic, like an idiot. Went to bed. Burning came back. So then I went and got a back of ice and wrapped it in a towel. That worked with minor readjustments every now and then.

I woke up to some text messages that made my day! ^_^

MOVING ON to more exciting things... last week was fun! For a whole two days.

On Thursday was the shoot for the giveaway! Kyle Saylor, the photographer came to pick me up around 12:45 that afternoon. I've met him before but we didn't really talk much. He's neat. I like him because he can pull off sweet 80's goth hair and he also works for Machinima. He mentioned that I'm the only person that actually knew what Machinima is. Not surprising! It was a really long drive, but the cemetery we arrived at was super pretty. And it was a gorgeous day out. There were 5 of us all together; Ponies, Kaira (the designer) + her hubby, Kyle, and myself.

Kaira generously supplied me with some corsets to choose from. They set up for the filming, which went into details of the contest. I idiotically chased squirrels in the background. Then we even went inside the mausoleum and filmed a bit in there showing the Bat Pack. What a pretty place! After the filming was complete, Kaira had Kyle capture some shots of me wearing the Bat Pack as well as another accessory that she had been working on. CUTEST thing ever. lookit!

Photographs taken by Kyle Saylor
Bat Pack and Bat Coin Purse created by Th1rte3n's Closet
which will be featured in Ponies' third book "A Goth Noob Picnic in the Cemetery Where DJ Dumbshit is Buried" lmao. That title just tickles me. And he says it with such a stoic tone to his voice that it's doubly comical, haha.

I couldn't be serious the whole time. SORRY.

Aren't they so cute though? They're so soft and warm.
The giveaway is for the Bat Pack. If you want to enter the contest, here's the video with Ponies and Kaira outlining all the details:

Afterwards we all went to dinner. I wish I could remember the place we went to. They had this awesome organic banana nut bread thing.. so good. Then we all said our goodbyes. Kaira is a sweetheart, I'm really glad to have met her and so grateful to be a part of this collaboration. It was really fun, and I didn't feel as weird as I anticipated. :D

So then SATURDAY comes along!
I worked a tiny little baby shift at work and had the rest of the day to myself soooooooooooo... I drove to Little Tokyo. My gas tank was full so... why not? OH MY GHAD somebody please... should've told me that Saturdays in Little Tokyo is everyone show up in Cosplay day. WOW. I knew it was going to be busy because it's a weekend, but dayum.

I visited all the usual places. First stop was Mr. Ramen which was right across the street to the lot that I parked in.. except there was a line out the door :( sooooooooo I went to the grocery store that's in a shopping center and was surprised by how many people were there.

You can enter the grocery store through the street entrance, which we always did. Grabbed my usuals and a few extra things to try. And just exit into the shopping center area. I avoided them all, naturally, and went right upstairs to the book store in search of volumes 7 and 8 of XXX-Holic. Crossing my fingers!

NOPE.
Again! All of them except 7 and 8! lol -__-

When I went to checkout (of course I got something) I asked them about it and they said they could order them. I'll supposedly be getting a phone call when they come in. Gives me an excuse to go back! ^_^

Once I finished at the shopping center I made my way back to the other shopping center closer to Mr. Ramen. Once I got there I got a little nervous because it was so crowded. I wanted to find the bakery with the delicious chocolate mousse, but after walking through there twice and not being able to really look from being so freaked out, I just gave up and went to Mr. Ramen. It was less crowded and there was one open table. Yay! This time I got Beef Curry Ramen. mmmm :D

It died down, which was really nice. Nice and quiet ^_^

I was there for a while. The table next to me was a group of college kids. Their conversation was amusing and though every part of me wanted them to not be right there, eavesdropping proved to be pretty amusing. They spoke like the "tch, like... I don't even know, like.. my classes... like... next semester -- YEAH! like my professor is like.." you know what I mean? You kinda wanna smack someone that speaks that way with a book in hopes of aiding them to reach a slightly increased level of eloquence. However I don't think words transfer well that way, but the idea of it sounds just as nice as it does cynical.

Afterwards, for dessert, I stopped by the boba place and picked up a lychee fruit slush! Those slushes are soooo good. Usually I get mango, but lychee stuff is pretty good too so... I tried it. Was not dissapointed!

Don't look at my nail. I broke it at work.

I returned to the other shopping center with all the cosplay kids and went right upstairs and sat on a bench to enjoy my slush.

I wonder if the same people show up every Saturday and they all know each other? Probably. They were all pretty social with each other. But I guess... because that doesn't come naturally to me...  two chairs placed next to each other is what I consider social so... maybe I'm just broken and am fascinated with their ease to mingle.

Eventually I mustured up the courage to go down there and ask to take some pictures of them. This was extremely difficult for me. I sat there for 20 minutes debating it in my head. Then I'd feel I was ready to go, but then instantly I'd change my mind and stay there, and just watch them some more. But I did it! At least.... twice. Thankfully, just as I was reaching the stairs, a super adorable girl in Hatsune Miku cosplay... sort of. I think. At least... that's what I guessed from her wig. I could be wrong... her make up was.. not Hatsune Miku but... I dunno. Whatever. She was cute.

And then this other chick in colorful stuff walked up the stairs, and I asked her for a picture. She was kinda bitchy and totally opposite of the blue wig chick, who was super nice and really sweet.

But I'm sure it has nothing to do with the general obvious. Which is extremely cruel to point out but if you're thinking it... you're just like me. :)

And that was it. I did it. I was satisfied. I walked downstairs and lingered a little longer to people watch.

After that, it was time to go. I was satisfied with my goodies, and I was full. And I had seen stuff, and I had my boba drink. And yay. :D Time to go home!

Here's what I bought!

I settled for volume 9 lol. Sigh
More stationary and blueberry dango! ^_^ nom nom!!

THOSE CHIPS ARE SO GOOD. They literally taste like.. exactly what the bag says. Shrimp and garlic. Two of my favorite flavors mmmpf. So delicious.

SO. GOOD. The other one is still unopened. I'm saving it for tomorrow after Ikea.

And the usuals. It was a lychee kind of day! ^_^

Longest entry ever?

Oh here's my face. hi

big ass zit on my nose

And then there's this Frappuccino charm I made for my boss. She also got a hot cup version too, which I completely forgot to take a picture of. We had a heated argument/disagreement at work for a while over an incident. Once she made it clear the conversation was over, I whipped out her other cup, and she looked at me all pissed off and hugged me. Today she told me how great it is that I take her feedback so well. We're completely fine, like it never happened. It made me feel good that she said that. Shows that I can get along with just about everyone. In the long run, these fights really don't matter. I like my closer bonds that I have. And destroying them over petty shit is just retarded.
But... if people are downright crazy irrational, uncalled-for curt douchebags, or lie to me... rest assured your bs is ephemeral and will be noted, and not forgotten. I just want to associate with friendly, intelligent, empathetic, not-curt people!

On that note... IMMA EAT SOME CANDY! Rot and I got groceries today. I was singing little tunes all day like a little furby, I was so happy. My afternoon started when Rot came over to the bed and grabbed my ankle to tickle me. In my -I thought- genius psyche, I became a crocodile and started rolling aggressively in our bed to try to escape his grasp of awful giggles of doom. He started cracking up and fought back to keep his grasp. I am a CROCODILE. AND I DO NOT STAND FOR FEET TICKLES. Eventually I got tired, and he won. I told him I'm a crocodile.

 "...and a retard!"

^____^
