I remember when turning 25 was exciting. Anything beyond that point I find to be nothing short of depressing, anymore.
This entry will cover the activities during my non-birthday day! Er, days, rather. Evenings.
Yeah.
It began last Sunday evening, when I totally didn't even remember that we were doing non-birthday birthday things the following morning. I'm horrible.
Fett had reminded me that evening to come over by midnight because he had some things to give me.
This is the part where I fail at being a normal person. I'm one of those people who have mixed feelings about receiving gifts. It could be that I'm just jaded, insecure, an asshole, spoiled, or a bunch of other negative things... or that I just genuinely don't know how to feel. This isn't to say that I'm not genuinely touched-- trust me; a trillion things immediately race through my head as soon as someone hands something to me.
It's foggy to me still as to why these are the things I ponder when someone gives me gifts. The closest thing to make sense was a kind of insecurity in believing that I am not deserving of much-- I don't make enough to dismiss being frugal without putting aside my own priorities/hobbies/eating--- which are non-negotiable. I also have severely low expectations.
Anywho, I am always astounded when someone goes out of their way, because in spite of all of these things, I realize that when somebody goes out of their way to, getting down to the bare bones, invest in your joy-- that's really fucking nice. Like, that's SO nice. They don't HAVE to do that, but they did... and that's just fucking cool.
I'm rambling.
So. That evening, I go over there and he immediately leads to his room, where he shows me a large cardboard box. He loves cardboard boxes. I wouldn't be surprised if his coffin turned out to be a large cardboard box.
I opened it to find a whole bunch of things!
This is a shitty picture =\
but. You can see most of it
And the sweetest thing was that a lot of these were based on memories we made.
The drinks were from that time we went to that shop that has all those different flavored sodas. He got me more pirate piss, Ramune, monster mucus (lol) and bawls! lol
The giant gummy bear was from the night that we talked about going vegetarian for a month, and having to give up gummy bears because they're made of gelatin, so I'd have to invest in a huge thing of gummy candy before then, lol.
The Marquis book was from when we went to the Illiad and how I squeed over how many of his books they had. This one in particular was the one I wanted, but had already splurged a bit and wanted to put it off for another time.
The pocket knife was because he thought my other one wasn't as functional (it's curved... like a falcon's claw), so he got me one that'll slice easier ^_^
He gave me b-day money, because he recognizes my preference to practicality sometimes. (Which I'm going to invest back into fun for the both of us.)
Loot Crate because duh.
A reservation at The Little Door
and tickets to go see the Getty Villa
he went a little nuts. but the thing I appreciated most about this is that they were highlights of moments we shared, and also towards making even more moments for us to share together.
Is that stupid? lol :P
shaddap.
And yeah, I cried and stuff. shaddap.
The following morning we got up early to head to Malibu!
I don't think I've ever been to Malibu. Actually I'm pretty sure I haven't. There were a shit ton of people rollerblading and skating and jogging and biking and ... doing activities all along the boardwalk. And lots of palm trees. And the ocean was right there. It was exactly like in movies. Except really hot and bright and w/ shitty drivers everywhere.
We were headed to Malibu because that's where the Getty Villa is located.
Fett also had never been there, so this was completely new to the both of us. He showed me some things online on what to expect. It's even more gorgeous in person. It's like you're walking through this ancient greece.... out house, lol. There were statues everywhere, and the garden, and all the artifacts and bust sculptures and the greek mythology things and and and just ugh. It was so cool you guise.
PICTURE DUMP TIME
he looks like he was just smacking his lips after tasting bad wine.
"this grape is on point, ya'll"
"this ball... could never fit in my pocket"
"uuuuuu nuuuu! mah haaaands"
thought to be Cupid.
he's got the "just do it, man" look on his face.
"hey guys, look at my knee"
"ok, this egg won't fit in my horn guys"
"am I a mattress?"
"OKAY, ALTOS FROM THE TOP HERE WE GO"
"trunk I will punch you"
"why is it still raining on me"
this was from a huge pillar of sediment that still had artifacts in it.
SOOOOOOOOOOOO beautiful!
The only thing we didn't get to observe was the fountain in use. I don't think people actually realize the severity of the drought we're going through. They turned off all of the fountains. There was only one that was working, but it looked like it recycled it's own supply.
"please don't bite me, wall"
Those were the best fries I've had in my entire life.
They were garlic-y, and onion-y, and salted to perfection. UGH.
"but my peepee =\"
"did I just hear my feet come off?"
"HANG IT LIKE THIS. LIKE GRAPES"
"i can smell that"
"but this doesn't feel like a grape"
"you smell like macaroni and cheese"
"you gaahs, mah staff is so little, I can't eat off my plate with it"
waaaaaaaaaaaant
They also have little shows and plays here.
It was absolutely awesome. There was a ton to see.
Highly recommended as a place to visit if you're into history and ancient Greece and stuff.Very beautiful.
Once we were finished there, having made sure we saw absolutely everything-- which we did, we headed home to change into something more formal.
This was because Fett also got us reservations to a lovely restaurant in Santa Monica called The Little Door.
To my utter surprise the name completely threw me off. It is not as humble as the name suggests. And I couldn't even.

I got this image from Google. Apparently this place is a thing. If you care enough, go look it up. I rather not mention more and seem pompous >_<

Needless to say, this restaurant is GORGEOUS.
It's a French fusion restaurant, w/ 4 different seating rooms. Going at night was a must, and and and and... it was just amazing. He took my breath away, yet again.
I wish these photos could capture more of it, but it was too dark. Just trust me when I saw it was a very lovely evening, and meal. We connected more than I thought possible, and I probably drank the most water that night than I have in several weeks. I had to pee 4 times, you'd think I was drunk. I was incredibly nervous, and downed water like a fish. The waiter just automatically made the rounds to refill my cup, which was almost every time he walked by.
I felt overwhelmed w/ emotion, not all entirely good and trying to rationalize it all made turned me into a water balloon. YAY :D
Either way, it was an awesome fun filled day. We saw two absolutely gorgeous places and were able to take it all in for the first time together.
OH. and this time we didn't do valet parking ^____^ WE PARKED ON THE STREET!!! That was really exciting! lmao, I felt normal and like not a slave driver :D hahah
And while my birthday still has not come to pass, I'm pretty much done w/ it, lol.
My parents generously put forth some assistance for my school/classes, which was pretty much all I even genuinely felt I really needed. I want to finish school, for realsies, so that was massive for me.
I got magic cards from my high school ex, which is awesome.
And I've been treating myself to small little pleasures.
I also got the 4th volume to Monster Musume like 3 days ago. Which. Was read in an hour.
It's so cute, it has my favorite character in it. Now I have to wait until like March or something equally soul-wrenching for the 5th English volume. >_<
OH!
And.. the Loot Crate box arrived a few days later!
I was really excited :) So was Fett!
And then I wasn't, lol.
It had some cute things, but since Fett and I both live under a rock and don't care about current hypes, this box was a total miss. =\
I know that Guardians is a big deal right now, and a new TMNT movie came out recently. The Deadpool magnet was cute, and the button was cute. lol, yep.
bah, I suck.
Looking at all their past boxes, I'm SOOOOOO glad I didn't get them, LOL.
The only one that somewhat appealed to me was the Villains one, last month.
I felt so bad that I offered to pay Fett the money he spent on the box LOL. He refused, of course, but I still feel bad that I'm just.... not.... like... I don't... care..... about... trends. at all.
It disappointed me a little to discover that Loot Crate follows a trend pattern, because of course majority rules, and they'll market to majority. but here's hoping the next one will be more.... spontaneous and irrelevant to 2014! :D
I wouldn't be surprised if it was paper money and an ice pack. LOL. That's how relevant I feel Loot Crate currently is to my nerd-dom. We'll see!
Anyway. I have some stuff other stuff going on that I'll go into in the next entry. This one's long enough I think :P
Oh, and Fett and I are gonna go vegetarian for September. I'll miss gummy bears the most.
