MMO shopping, OH MY

That's right. I'm playing SWG for the time being.

-No, I'm not that retarded. I'm playing SWGemu!

A few posts back, I mentioned that there's a group of amazing people out there who are working on servers for SWG veterans to play. Not the crappy, ugly, butchered, everything on a silver platter SWG, but the Pre-combat update SWG from 6 years ago before Sony ate shit and liked it.

It's so cool to be playing it again. The memories came pouring in as soon as I stepped into Mos Eisley's cantina. The down side is that the game is still in it's alpha stages. It shows very much. But I'm willing to wait. The fact that it's there for me to access whenever I want, knowing that it's slowly regaining it's strength back is enough for me to remain loyal.

Another announcement is that Rot and I are mmo shopping now. We're tired of World of Warcraft, and we got bored w/ Rift. Rift is too small right now. I need more content. It's a great game, but they need to add a little more to it. I'm sure they will, and once they do, I'll jump back on the bandwagon. I can still play for a while, just not re-occurring.

MMO shopping is hard! What to choose? I mean... I always wanted to try Aion, but apparently it's shit. Dungeons and Dragons Online is free... for a reason. And so is Lord of the Rings online. But... eh. I dunno. I'll try DDO before LoTR though, if I must.
I even thought about re-installing Guild Wars, but... meeeeh. Rot, Josh, and I were all just sitting in the living room pondering and going off about how MMOs are just blah right now. World of Warcraft simplified everything and has changed the standards and expectations of MMOs now that all others are just ruined before they even come out. They literally dumbed it down SO much... that other companies don't stand a chance. It's awful. That makes gamers like myself, rot, and josh, sit in our living room, and think about what MMO we want to play now because we're so tired of WoW, and Rift is too small right now, and the others are just... not WoW. It's a vicious cycle.
It's even worse for veterans who have played MMOs before World of Warcraft, because it never used to be like that. It was actually a challenge. Now, WoW is pretty much the Special Eds student of MMOs, and because Special Ed has made so much money, and has attracted so many Special Ed PLAYERS, veterans like myself must also tolerate the industry's newly adopted "expectations", or as I like to call it, "horse shit that'll follow suit."

Apparently Guild Wars 2 has promise, but people always say that. To me, a monthly subscription doesn't make or break my decision on playing an MMO. I've been playing MMOs since I was 14 years old. So the fact that NCSoft \ ArenaNet is advertising it as a big MMO w/ no monthly subscription bullshit means absolutely nothing to me. I could give a shit.
Now as far as Rift goes, don't get me wrong. I really enjoyed Rift. It's just that they need to add more things to the game. I understand that it's only a couple months old, and there's a lot of room for growth, but as a veteran, I'm impatient. Right now, it just isn't worth the monthly I was paying for it.
And even though I do enjoy the broken SWG at my disposal, it just doesn't fill the void. I need an MMO that's going to keep me yearning for more. :(
It's kind of funny how important this is to me. I never realized how much of a turd I am, but I am. I love MMOs. Without one in my life, I feel kinda bummed. I have the option to occupy myself w/ several other things, but I just don't want to.

In the mean time, I could always play Zelda: The Windwaker on my gamecube with Sex and the City playing on my other monitor... but it's just not the same. I've also considerate buying The Sims 3, but what's the difference? Better graphics. Oh joy. --I'm a Nintendo fan. C'mon now, lol!

Speaking of which, I was really disappointed to learn that Nintendo came out w/ an updated version of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the 3DS. What about the DS:Lite?! Sh'mon now, Nintendo, wtf? So lame. I was talking to Rot a couple weeks back about how they needed to come out w/ an upgraded version of that game, because when I play it on my monitor, it looks like ass. As much as I can tolerate horrible graphics w/ massive pixels... that was too much. I couldn't do it. It was painful. It's like watching your hamster dying of old age. I know what I'm talking about.

Anyhow,  I'm rambling. I thought about a tattoo that I would get, If I could even afford it, or prioritize before important things like paying bills on time. In addition to the other two that I would like to get someday. What are they? I shall post it when it happens. In the meantime, I'm going to look for my Guild Wars CD :(

Here is a clip of my neighbors being rude by having loud sex at 11 at night with their window open,

You're never going to believe this!

Oh my GOD.

So like, I was at work and stuff and checked my email on my phone because my Droid told me I had some, right. And I got the most jacked up, hilarious email ever. I was like looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool NO WAI R U SRS!?
and then I thought... well duh, I guess that makes sense. Because they were so totally like.. just assholes w/ what they did to people. But still, that's just so funny to me. Sad at the same time though cuz like... we had a relationship a couple years back, so... =\
But my guess would be that this new guy's coming around soon, so I'm not really that surprised. Anyway, I took a screenshot so you guys can see. CUZ I WUZ LAHK OMFG LOOOOL

I blame SW:TOR

Sh'mon now

Rift is going to implement add-ons.

I am a sad banana...

Swear to god, if I'm put into another situation where I'm cornered into an ultimatum between not running content and downloading add-ons, I'll quit. Trion needs to not make Rift into World of Warcraft. I swear, MMO players these days got so damn spoiled from WoW, that their standards and expectations are just batshit crazy. And I fear that Trion will succumb to the whining babies and just ... wreck everything.
The thing I liked most about Rift was that it's a MMORPG <------ R. P. G.
RPG.
ARRRR PEEEE JEEEE
ROLE PLAYING GAME.
MMORPG
ok? a mass-multi online R O L E   P L A Y I N G   G A M E

and not an MMOPVPG.

NOT EQUAL TO PLAYER VERSUS PLAYER GAME

Just making sure we're clear. Ok. The PvP in Rift isn't as coddled as it is in WoW. They don't have Arenas! And I LOVE it!
This is me right now w/ Rift and no Arenas:

Reason I disdain Arenas so much is because they completely butcher the balances in the make-up of the class stats.
K I know some of you reading this don't understand; so I shall explain and such.
  •    Hi! I am an assasin. I can do things like go invisible, do close ranged damage, and I am swift and agile. I wear leather armor, and I have things that stun you and prevent you from doing stuffs because I am a sneaky son of a bitch!
  •   Hi! I am a wizard. I can do things like turn you into a frog, and do massive amounts of ranged damage. I can slow you so you can't reach me as I am casting a spell! I am a glass cannon. If you touch me I die, but if I can stay away from you, I DESTROY you.
  •   Hi! I am a warrior. I can take a lot of damage because I wear plate armor. I am very very slow, but I hit very hard. I am great for keeping the Bosses' attention because I have so much health and can take the hits.
  •   Hi! I am a priest. I heal things forever and never run out of mana.
  •   Hi! I am a tool. I do everything! I can do mediocre heals, and mediocre damage, but I offer utility to the entire group in order for them to perform better at my expense.
^ The 5 traditional roles in like... rpgs. typically the caster, the healer, the melee class, and the hybrid.

Now...  These classes all have their own purposes that work very well together  when grouped. They benefit one another and when executed well, the  synergy allows for awesome gameplay....... except when there are a shit  ton of healers and a shit ton of wizards who just go out and kill  everyone.

guess what happens then? The wizards get 'nerfed'  (altered so their spells are less powerful) because players abused the  class mechanics in PVP (Player versus Player). But it was perfectly fine  in PVE (Player versus Environment). So now the PvP community is  bitching, and so is the PvE community. Who's fault is it? The PvE's  community? Who are just playing the game as it was designed? Or the PvP  community, who looks for every single fucking little thing and abuses  the fuck out of it in order to come out on top in the Battle grounds,  and then ruins it for everyone else? How do they ruin it? Well... If the  wizards are nerfed because people were just grouping wizards and  healers in the battlegrounds, then the wizards who were killing dungeon  bosses suffer that damage loss too.. so then another class becomes more  powerful, and then everyone plays that class instead. rinse and repeat.

it's impossible to balance PvP and PvE because they have completely different mechanics and synergy play-styles.

Arenas... Arenas in World of Warcraft were exactly that. Gladiator style PvP.
  • 1v1
  • 2v2
  • 3v3
  • 4v4
  • 5v5
Classes  got nerfed constantly because one was always more powerful than  another, every other couple of weeks, all because of the PvP community.  if it wasn't for PvP, in an mmoRPG there wouldn't be half as many  balancing issues as there are.

So that's why I hope they don't add Arenas. I don't care about battlegrounds that much, they can be fun in moderation, but I don't want them to take over like they did in WoW. Pissed me off. Thought I was playing an MMORPG.
---------------------------------------------------

Back to why players are spoiled... WoW basically spoon fed the whiners everything they wanted and that's why it blows now. People bitched about how Rift doesn't have add-ons, and they finally succumbed to providing them. I think damage and healing meters are beneficial in raids, but should only be accessible to the raid leaders so people don't turn into total retards over how much damage they're doing. EXAMPLE;

The boss does an area of effect spell and causes random spots in the room to light up purple. These purple spots do damage to you if you're standing in them and could possibly get you killed. Not only that, but if you're standing somewhere you shouldn't be, the healer is spending mana on heals to keep you alive that shouldn't even be cast on you because you shouldn't be standing in the purple spots to begin with. Now... I've seen players who were such dps nazis that DIDN'T "MOVE OUT OF THE FIRE" because they wanted to keep doing damage as fast as they could to be first on the damage meters. <--- I can't stand that shit. I hate that bullshit.
If that douchebag dies, that's less damage that the group is doing all together on the boss, decreasing the amount of time that it could've taken us to kill the boss if he had stayed alive, and not only that, but the healer was healing this asshole instead of healing the "tank," who the boss is beating up on so it doesn't kill the rest of the group.

see how that shit works? meters are fine, but i think should only be accessible to the raid leaders. if someone is doing horrible, then they can address it at their discretion.

Next is; Boss mods. The add-ons that tell you where to go and what ability the boss is about to cast.

THEY DIDN'T HAVE THAT IN ZELDA. I HAD TO FIGURE THAT SHIT OUT FOR MYSELF.

spoon fed much? ya.

and not only that, but in WoW, it got to a point where raiding guilds demanded that you have these add-ons installed, otherwise you wouldn't go to raids. Pissed me off.

I'm an oldschool type of gal. I appreciate the way video games are created, and I hate steering away from that for the sake of making it easier or so that I don't have to put in as much effort in getting something done. It's completely stupid in my opinion. What's the point in being rewarded when you're half-assing everything? Or completely changing it to the way YOU want it? I can appreciate having an interface that's convenient and organized, but what more than that do you really need? That's already been provided for us. You shouldn't need to have a computer game flashing bright icons in your face telling you what abilities to use and when to use them. If you do, then I suggest a game that's less complicated for your caliber of processing and reflexes. Srsly. And most of these players in Rift are MMO veterans. So wtf? Sh'mon now.

Don't give up on me, Trion. Don't give in to the whiners. I quit WoW to play Rift, because Rift is not WoW... so far...

It's Rot's Birthday, but you don't know that

   Happy Birthday Peempurs!! Josh and I went halvesies on a Buffy the Vampire Slayer cake. poor guy had to drive down all the way to West Hollywood to get it, but our mission has been a success! I came home early from work for this. But it was worth it. He wasn't expecting it at all .......   ;D hehe..

The cake came out amazing. LOOK AT IT. It's awesome! I made a sex joke and everything! He ate Buffy. (See what I did there?)
Yummy deliciousness chocolate cake. So guuuurd.
West Hollywood, I hate you, but thank you for being so pretentious and making amazing Buffy cakes!

~~~
Anywho... haven't written in a long time. We just recently got settled into our new place, and as all that was going down, we had car issues. But now, all is better. PS: our guild disbanded. Rot was gonna make me Guild leader, but... that wouldn't help anything so it was best to just disband. Sucks because I loved that name. Oh welly well!
And now to enjoy the rest of my week w/ two paid days off and a ton of writing. And leveling my Defiant toon. We rerolled toons on the opposite faction and I like it a lot more. Seems more alive than the Guardian side. Of course, I rolled a black skinned elf in homage to my most favoritestestest fantasy characters, aside from Driders and Mind Flayers, the Drow!
I love her. Inspired by one of my most beloved Forgotten Realms characters, Liriel Baenre.
Drow typically inherit red eyes. I think the only two Drow elves that I know of who inherited the recessive gene
of different eye color is Drizz't, and Liriel. Drizz't has violet, while Liriel has embery-yellowy eyes. I would think that Liriel is
pretty much the female counter part of Drizz't. <3 hee!
~~~

I also retired from making signatures for a while, except for a select two that I'll be making soon. I started more a little while ago, but the people who I put so much effort into just ended up leaving, or quitting, and it's a bummer. Rot's been asking me about his for a while now, and I feel bad, but I'm just not motivated lol. So he'll have to wait! haha

Aaaand, you guise know how much I love taking things apart, analyzing them painfully to every little minute detail, and then coming to some sort of answer w/ why things are the way they are. Well, I'm writing something else again! In all the years that I've been playing MMOs, there's always been a player in the guilds I've been in that I thought I could share intimate lady secrets with.. or wanted my boyfriends attention a little too much, to later discover it was a man playing the part of an actual woman in real life the entire time. So I took it upon myself to look into some research and see some peoples perspectives on that. Being that I don't personally know anyone who does that, or wouldn't look at me like I was a weirdo, and being that my gay friends don't play MMOs, I went to the Rift forums. Yea I know... don't laugh.

Ponies! I wish you would play w/ us =[

Anyway... off to enjoy my days off. ^-^ and eat yummy Buffy cake
