Sh'mon now

Rift is going to implement add-ons.

I am a sad banana...

Swear to god, if I'm put into another situation where I'm cornered into an ultimatum between not running content and downloading add-ons, I'll quit. Trion needs to not make Rift into World of Warcraft. I swear, MMO players these days got so damn spoiled from WoW, that their standards and expectations are just batshit crazy. And I fear that Trion will succumb to the whining babies and just ... wreck everything.
The thing I liked most about Rift was that it's a MMORPG <------ R. P. G.
RPG.
ARRRR PEEEE JEEEE
ROLE PLAYING GAME.
MMORPG
ok? a mass-multi online R O L E   P L A Y I N G   G A M E

and not an MMOPVPG.

NOT EQUAL TO PLAYER VERSUS PLAYER GAME

Just making sure we're clear. Ok. The PvP in Rift isn't as coddled as it is in WoW. They don't have Arenas! And I LOVE it!
This is me right now w/ Rift and no Arenas:

Reason I disdain Arenas so much is because they completely butcher the balances in the make-up of the class stats.
K I know some of you reading this don't understand; so I shall explain and such.
  •    Hi! I am an assasin. I can do things like go invisible, do close ranged damage, and I am swift and agile. I wear leather armor, and I have things that stun you and prevent you from doing stuffs because I am a sneaky son of a bitch!
  •   Hi! I am a wizard. I can do things like turn you into a frog, and do massive amounts of ranged damage. I can slow you so you can't reach me as I am casting a spell! I am a glass cannon. If you touch me I die, but if I can stay away from you, I DESTROY you.
  •   Hi! I am a warrior. I can take a lot of damage because I wear plate armor. I am very very slow, but I hit very hard. I am great for keeping the Bosses' attention because I have so much health and can take the hits.
  •   Hi! I am a priest. I heal things forever and never run out of mana.
  •   Hi! I am a tool. I do everything! I can do mediocre heals, and mediocre damage, but I offer utility to the entire group in order for them to perform better at my expense.
^ The 5 traditional roles in like... rpgs. typically the caster, the healer, the melee class, and the hybrid.

Now...  These classes all have their own purposes that work very well together  when grouped. They benefit one another and when executed well, the  synergy allows for awesome gameplay....... except when there are a shit  ton of healers and a shit ton of wizards who just go out and kill  everyone.

guess what happens then? The wizards get 'nerfed'  (altered so their spells are less powerful) because players abused the  class mechanics in PVP (Player versus Player). But it was perfectly fine  in PVE (Player versus Environment). So now the PvP community is  bitching, and so is the PvE community. Who's fault is it? The PvE's  community? Who are just playing the game as it was designed? Or the PvP  community, who looks for every single fucking little thing and abuses  the fuck out of it in order to come out on top in the Battle grounds,  and then ruins it for everyone else? How do they ruin it? Well... If the  wizards are nerfed because people were just grouping wizards and  healers in the battlegrounds, then the wizards who were killing dungeon  bosses suffer that damage loss too.. so then another class becomes more  powerful, and then everyone plays that class instead. rinse and repeat.

it's impossible to balance PvP and PvE because they have completely different mechanics and synergy play-styles.

Arenas... Arenas in World of Warcraft were exactly that. Gladiator style PvP.
  • 1v1
  • 2v2
  • 3v3
  • 4v4
  • 5v5
Classes  got nerfed constantly because one was always more powerful than  another, every other couple of weeks, all because of the PvP community.  if it wasn't for PvP, in an mmoRPG there wouldn't be half as many  balancing issues as there are.

So that's why I hope they don't add Arenas. I don't care about battlegrounds that much, they can be fun in moderation, but I don't want them to take over like they did in WoW. Pissed me off. Thought I was playing an MMORPG.
---------------------------------------------------

Back to why players are spoiled... WoW basically spoon fed the whiners everything they wanted and that's why it blows now. People bitched about how Rift doesn't have add-ons, and they finally succumbed to providing them. I think damage and healing meters are beneficial in raids, but should only be accessible to the raid leaders so people don't turn into total retards over how much damage they're doing. EXAMPLE;

The boss does an area of effect spell and causes random spots in the room to light up purple. These purple spots do damage to you if you're standing in them and could possibly get you killed. Not only that, but if you're standing somewhere you shouldn't be, the healer is spending mana on heals to keep you alive that shouldn't even be cast on you because you shouldn't be standing in the purple spots to begin with. Now... I've seen players who were such dps nazis that DIDN'T "MOVE OUT OF THE FIRE" because they wanted to keep doing damage as fast as they could to be first on the damage meters. <--- I can't stand that shit. I hate that bullshit.
If that douchebag dies, that's less damage that the group is doing all together on the boss, decreasing the amount of time that it could've taken us to kill the boss if he had stayed alive, and not only that, but the healer was healing this asshole instead of healing the "tank," who the boss is beating up on so it doesn't kill the rest of the group.

see how that shit works? meters are fine, but i think should only be accessible to the raid leaders. if someone is doing horrible, then they can address it at their discretion.

Next is; Boss mods. The add-ons that tell you where to go and what ability the boss is about to cast.

THEY DIDN'T HAVE THAT IN ZELDA. I HAD TO FIGURE THAT SHIT OUT FOR MYSELF.

spoon fed much? ya.

and not only that, but in WoW, it got to a point where raiding guilds demanded that you have these add-ons installed, otherwise you wouldn't go to raids. Pissed me off.

I'm an oldschool type of gal. I appreciate the way video games are created, and I hate steering away from that for the sake of making it easier or so that I don't have to put in as much effort in getting something done. It's completely stupid in my opinion. What's the point in being rewarded when you're half-assing everything? Or completely changing it to the way YOU want it? I can appreciate having an interface that's convenient and organized, but what more than that do you really need? That's already been provided for us. You shouldn't need to have a computer game flashing bright icons in your face telling you what abilities to use and when to use them. If you do, then I suggest a game that's less complicated for your caliber of processing and reflexes. Srsly. And most of these players in Rift are MMO veterans. So wtf? Sh'mon now.

Don't give up on me, Trion. Don't give in to the whiners. I quit WoW to play Rift, because Rift is not WoW... so far...
