Summer just means that Autumn is around the corner. But it also means night markets and warm nights. And THAT means late food runs and staying up til 6am.
Lately I've been on this Pho thing. Before, Pho wasn't really all that great to me; I'm a snob with broth and the few times that I'd had it, the flavor left much to be desired. Especially when around that time, I was going crazy with tonkotsu ramen broth everywhere I went.
BUT THERE'S THIS PHO PLACE AT THE EDGE OF MY BLOCK and the sun was gone and we were bored so we walked there
This place is dope. It like, awakened my inner broth gods through savory flavor prayer and I was like OHKAY THEN. Was also spicy. And I remembered that I love a shit ton of lime and cilantro in my broth. Like my rice.

Oh yeah, so the photos above were of the food I was making specifically for boyfriend. There's this Peruvian place right by work, and his favorite dish is tallarin verde ["green spaghetti"]. I tried it. Much milder than I'm used to, and the basil seemed muted. But he loves it! So, I had to make him some the way mi mama prepared it for us. And he lost his shit.
We also tried the papa a la huancaina ["h'wan-ka-EE-na style potatoes"] there, which also was mild. I'm not sure who their main demographic is, but the flavor was extremely muted. So, I prepared that for him too. He lost his shit.
And for dessert, which they did not have, but I just wanted to make because it's my favorite, I prepared crema volteada [flipped creme]. which is basically a baked custard thing. And he lost his shit.
So basically, boyfriend lost his shit and really liked everything. The end!

Oh so like since fathers' day was coming up, chicken boyfriend mentioned that his dad really likes custards and flan type things. And immediately I thought... this.... this is my moment. I can impress him with my dessert!

Like, okay. Anime food makes me mad because it's so pretty, and it always looks so good and perfect and melt-in-your-mouth. All of it does. There's no anime food in existence that looks unappetizing. It makes real food look like shit. But THIS place....

Always gotta stop by MY BABIES AT SEOUL STREET. The best Korean street food EVER. I signed them up for something and am hoping it works out. These guys work hard, and every time I see them, they have new things on the menu! Always gotta stop by and support. They've been so good to me for so long. They've hooked me up SO much and I can't even thank them enough. No matter how much money I wanna thrw at them, they're like NOPE. and treat me like fam. Ah, yes. The epic "Jeph" tweet. It's been made into a poster and put up right by the Starbucks on campus. Funny is an understatement. Would you like to read about the story behind the Jeph?
Once upon a time, there was a newly opened sbux on the Blizzard campus. Many traveled from lands far beyond the orc statue, some even beyond the street, to retrieve their very own personalized precious cup of delicious, mind-numbing energy. Little did they know that the merchant with the pen also traveled from a far away land. So far even, that the English language was quite foreign to him.
so he spelled "Jeff" as American-phonetically as he thought because "Stephanie" exists and it broke the internet for a day lol, the end!
People learn about this and they feel bad, but I knew him and the guy was funny. Even though he was totally in the US for like, 3 months, a part of me sometimes thinks he did it on purpose because he had a snark to him lol. He's no longer there, but his infamous "Jeph" spelling mishap will forever live in the Blizzard archives.

This year was another chill visit. It was boyfriends' first one since... in a long time. Since AX was at the Anaheim Convention Center and only occupied a single hall. He was in for a lot.
I was ready for food trucks and finding trash to buy. Seriously though, this year I didn't give a shit and went the first day in my pajamas. I'm over it, lol
And visiting friends from work :D
Also, the roadhog cosplays this year were dominating and they all looked so cool! There was even a Butcher skin roadhog, but he got away before I could get his picture. Look at these, though!

So there was this booth, right. Alllll the way to the right side of the main vendor hall, shrouded in black curtains with a giant sign above it that read 18+. I'm 18+. I'm SO 18+. It's calling me. And boyfriend has no idea what's happening. WE HAVE TO GO. There's no other way.
We shuffle our way through the crowd and find the line wrapping only halfway around the booth. Seems reasonable. We hurry in and wait. Anticipating an ID check, we get our IDs ready, giggling like children in 1996 about to see the noodie channel on pay-per-view.
As we're waiting in line, we hear... ahegao noises. Do you know what ahegao is? No? Fantastic.
We finally made it to the entrance and are let in like nothing. Yes, they checked our IDs. To my left, there's a booth with adult accessories and costumes. To my right is a VR game with very realistic models on the screen. They're just... yanno, wrestling with stuff. Seemingly.
We keep moving, there's some hentai, and further up there's a crowd. A large crowd, laughing and watching something that we couldn't make out yet.
We approach it and shimmy through. I still couldn't see anything, thanks to being vertically challenged. But boyfriend begins to describe to me...
a body form, mannequin if you will.. with an apparatus attached to it. I quickly got a glimpse of a monitor with a first person view of a waifu with a maid costume on it. Just as quickly, another body blocks my view. He continues, an attendee takes the mannequin, and simulates coitus with it. And it's loud, everything is hard to hear through the laughter and con atmosphere. I'm trying to process everything he's saying and find myself going WAT?! at what I heard, what I thought I heard, and in response to the loudness.
Finally, some people start to clear out. I take this opportunity to shimmy in closer, past some more taller bodies, to come upon this... enchanting visual:

It was probably one of the funniest and craziest things I've seen come from hedonism and technology. We've certainly come a long way LOL

There was a Snape cosplayer who looked a lot like him, so we stalked him basically for like 10 booths until we caught up to him only because other people stopped him, probably to cry at his feet, and I asked him for a photo. I honestly wanted to hug him but that's weird.

We had dinner and afterwards went to a dessert place because we were talking about durians, and I'd never tasted one- or anything with durian in it. So they were like omg, and boyfriend was like, it's so dank tbh, and I was like I WANNA EAT IT THEN. so we went
So we got durian things
Do you know what a durian is? WELL.
If you don't, it's a big ass spikey oblong green coconut looking thing, but not hairy. It has incredible layers of protection. Probably the best defense mechanism in a fruit that you'll ever experience.
Because not only is the outside of it like spiky armor, but open it, and your nose will wanna die.
But whatever, eat it anyway, right?
and inside is like... this yellow, unappetizing pus looking creamy custard like stuff that tastes sweet. And I really like it lol. We got some durian desserts that I ate most of :(
And tomorrow, or rather I guess today, we're gonna go to the store and get a durian to open with my housemate ^_^ YAY
