Can I just say... Persimmons are my new favorite fruit. It used to be mango, but... I have been shown the light.
Do you even know what can be DONE? WITH PERSIMMONS?
Okay FIRST of all... they're like, cute little apple pumpkin things.
Secondly, they have a cool name. Persimmon? wtf is that? Some fruits have goofy names;
lime. grape. apple. melon. mango. and then there's this official ass sounding "Persimmon" with 18 syllables and 94 letters for a tiny apple pumpkin.
Um, like, tertiary... they can be oven-roast with cinnamon and brown sugar, or honey, and they're
A M A Z I N G ???
This is the worst intro ever. I'm sorry. I recently had some for the first time and they taste like sweet pumpkin and I love them. And that's it.
HI -- Happy Thanksgiving! kind of.
It's Saturday now, but I hope everyone had a dope day of gaining weight. I sure did!
I could totally be one of those people who brag about not eating turkey right now, because I didn't. (went to go eat korean instead) but, yanno. I won't do that. because no one likes those people
I promised Blizzcon in my last post; alright then. Here we go!
Forgot to take pictures, but I got a Mercy backpack hanger, Hanzo miniature, Hanzo pin, and some other thing I forgot. I opened his too, and I forgot what we got but they're around here somewhere, lol.
This wasn't the week of Blizzcon, though. We got em a little early. (If you don't already know why, I don't know what to tell ya :\)
I stayed at his place for like 2 weeks. In that time, he's been getting his cooking on. And I'm not even upset.
omg he made the best bok choy ever. and that shit's touchy. it can be gross and bitter if it's not done right, but his is MMPF
And for breakfast he made us Taiwanese pancakes which have become my favorite thing.
Dude made the batter from scratch. Tasted like gyoza batter, it's freckin delicious
and I love the colors that the scallions give it. It's just so good.
I eat it with soy sauce and chili oil.
I ate it way too fast, lol. And this last time he prepared it, he made 6 for us because I'm a food vacuum :(
Quick Note*: before Blizzcon, there was .... *takes breath*.....
S t a n L e e ' s L o s A n g e l e s C o m i c C o n ......
...
Yeah. That whole thing. All six words of it.
Used to be known as "Comikaze."
I'm sure money had a lot to do with it- ANYWAY
SLLACC (sigh) was the weekend prior, and I wanted him to see what cons were like since he hadn't really been before.
Admittedly, I didn't really take a lot of pictures because it was dead.
It seemed attendance had dropped lower than last year. I thought it was going to be crowded, but... I guess not many people like saying the whole damn thing either.
But I did run into Kyle, and introduced him to my guy.
Dey so cyoot. That piranha plant is my favorite lol
also, please af look at these keyboards
And conveniently nearby was the Fallout booth.
This artist though:
I went in there thinking that I wasn't going to buy anything at all until Sunday, because we had weekend passes.
Yeah, noo..
Peach Momoko was there and I just...
she does traditional ink art- none of this is digital. and her stuff is just beautiful to me. so I probably dropped a lot more money than anticipated for these-- they're getting framed
We probably spent more than we thought we would. Considering we were supposed to do our shopping on Sunday...
Frankly, the con was pretty small. I don't remember (back in Comikaze days) it being as small as it was. We were able to see everything in 2 hours time. Then it was just deciding on whether we wanted to splurge or not. Returning wasn't appealing.
So we splurged, and split.
To Little Tokyo!
He took us to this yummy udon place;
The nice thing about Little Tokyo is that after food, it's nice to just stroll around and look at stuff- or potentially buy things. So stroll, we did.
We got dessert
And snacks
Our last stop was Kinokuniya- the bookstore.
I picked up new manga lol
Annnnnnd all this stuff.
We watched Hellraiser to end the night :)
And yeah, we weren't going back lol.
The next morning, he set this up for me while I was in the shower ^_^
It's his laptop, but he outsourced everything and it's the best thing ever. He's awesome, and I'm crazy lucky that he's such a massive geek
Later that evening, for the lols, I suggested we go to my favorite ramen place of all time, ever;
Tatsunoya in Pasadena.
Let me telling something to you ok. Admittedly, I'm a ramen snob. Especially when it comes to broth. Specifically, tonkotsu broth. And it's not even really a broth flavor kinda thing, it's more of a base.
That base is no ordinary base. It's a base that's been marinating for hours. Extracting everything. coming together for a rich, thick, almost creamy texture bursting with flavor from everything ever. ok. It's an art.
Tatsunoya has it down RIGHT. Out of all the places I've been to, and all the tonkotsu ramen I've tasted-- even Daikokuya in Little Tokyo-- Tatsunoya got it. Daikokuya is good. Not gonna talk shit- their tonkotsu is good, but Tatsunoya man. That's the place to go if you visit here and wanna have that deep, rich, sugoi af tonkotsu ramen.
And that's where I took my guy.
Oddly enough, they were serving this too, for the season.
Seemed interesting, but I went with my safe usual choice.
One thing to note;
there's a trend now at many ramen places in SoCal where virtually all of the sides cost extra now.
That wasn't case even a year ago, but a lot of places picked it up and have updated their menus to have this new feature. Tatsunoya was no exception- which threw me off because the bowl I would order used to come with ... stuff in it. Now, they are all extra add ons. It's a bit annoying to see all the ramen places doing it now, but yeah--- that's a thing.
One of the staples is the marinated soft boiled egg. It's gotta be perfect.
I've been to places that had goofy ass hard boiled eggs that were cold in the middle-- BRUH WHAT DA FUK YOU TRYNNA FEED ME?
Don't settle. If you egg isn't that lovely shade of soy tan, or soft enough to press open with chopsticks to reveal that gooey heaven in the middle... nah. NAH SON, NAH
I will say though, I am not as practiced in ramen places that have the traditional shoyu, miso, and shio broths. There was once place that I REALLY liked that I went to with Doge. I forget the name of it, but it's near a Mitsuwa I think. Idk. I need to expand more on those.
Anyway, yeah. That place. it's dope.
Then we had coffee/dessert at this hipster coffee place that looked like a warehouse on the inside. Reminded me of Philadelphia. He got the affogato, I got cold brew. Was really good!
(but I don't get the urban/plumbing pipes everywhere/warehouse aesthetic appeal)
Next door was this other warehouse-y aesthetic place...es. We mostly went for Pie Hole.
The hipster chick who was working behind the counter was in a very bad mood and pretty rude. But our pies were good! :D
My goddess:
And our last stop was... more dessert.
Pasadena is dope.
No Suicide Bridge visit this time.
Just means we'll have to come back.
On Sunday...
All you can eat sushi? Don't mind if I do!
This place had the best decorations!
We went to go pick up his sister at LAX.
But beforehand, I prepared food for us to eat when we got back.
My hun is so awesome, I completely forgot an ingredient, and we had to leave in like 20 minutes to go pick up his sister. He drove to the spanish grocery down the street just to get the one ingredient I forgot. WAAAAH he's the best!
There was some weird lockdown because someone left a suitcase and it was seen as as bomb threat. So we were there forever. But she finally made it out, and once we got home, the gifts came out!
She picked these out for me ^^
I love them they're so cute
Aaaaand we had dinner. They liked it!
Everyone thought it was my normal make up :|
Later that night, my guy made this! Was amaaazzziinnng. I hope he makes it again. He just kinda threw a bunch of random stuff together and it turned out really good lol.
B L I Z Z C O N
yaaay we're here at last!
One of the most awesome ways to start my Blizzcon this year was meeting these two dudes at work; who traveled all the way from Peru! And were visiting the campus before the con.
We bonded and chatted for quite a bit. They were a little shocked to learn that they were mi gente, but it was a really cool talk. Glad to know you, chicos. And it's awesome seeing the rep traveling all this way for Blizz. It's pretty incredible.
Blizzcon this year was absolutely beautiful. Hands down my favorite year.
Everyone did so so so so so well putting everything together and I was so proud because I saw it in everyone's faces- the hours and work put into this. It was truly remarkable.
My favorite place was the Hearthstone Tavern.
My guy dope.
Can say we easily spent most of our time drinking in the tavern, when we weren't walking around trying to find friends working the demo stations.
What really set this Blizzcon apart from previous years that I can remember is the distribution of all of the stations and stages.
Blizzcon was notorious for having insane lines. And it wasn't a surprise to go in and see the halls pack full of human sardines because everything was being held in just those 4 halls. This includes the tournaments/championships, demos, contests, panels, and just roaming area. It simply wasn't enough.
This year, Blizzcon occupied 3 buildings. The arena hosted Overwatch (which, who are we kidding here, absolutely needs its own sect). The new building, North Hall, hosted the Darkmoon Faire and Hearthstone Tavern which had their own stages, panels and host of the Hearthstone championship.
This really helped with the crowds, and because of that, we were able to demo everything in less than 5 minutes. Except for Diablo and Heroes of the Storm-- we opted out of those, but everything else went very quickly and smoothly. I even got to demo Hearthstone twice!
And we saw work friends! It was great :D
The bards though. And they played tavern music! and and and
we drank ale!
omg two of these got me drunk and I've never had so much fun playing WoW for 15 minutes before lol
The Darkmoon Faire was beautiful
Just like in game, there were various vendors everywhere in little tents
While the North Hall was a decent trek from the main building, it was worth it just to see these areas.
At one point, I ran into Miss Ishii outside the bathroom. She let me know that there was a panel about to start soon that she was gonna be in with my friend Jason. It was the only panel I told myself I couldn't miss-- but apparently her and Taliesin were in it also!? Taliesin didn't tell me this lol, so with the time we had to kill, we wandered a little bit before making our way back to the Darkmoon Faire stage to see Jason, Taliesin, and Erika.
All Jason told me was that it was a voice actor panel and that's it. That butthole didn't tell me Taliesin was there too lol
It was so good to see hiiiiimmmm, my Tally bear! And, best part- my guy is a fan of Critical Role, and I was able to introduce him and he was extra happy :)
Tally butt :B
I've known him forever and it's still awesome to see where his journey led him. Both him and Jason!
Muh Jursuuuurrrrnn
First day was awesome.
Post con food was a must:
Omg.
The next day there was a panel I wanted to check out because Benaynay was in it, and at work, we do a thing.
We caught the last bit of his part, and he was rapping again.
Once he was done I wanted to go bug him but I think he was hiding somewhere, soooooooo
back to the tavern!
The matches were stressful. Mage vs. Drood is mmpf.
We hung out here for a while, and tried out Razer's new phone. It's nice
Once we finished our beers and keeping friends company, we did our final patrols to look at toys and pretty riggy babies and gear and battle stations and and and and
Also, this thing is insane.
bb boy
Highlight of my Blizzcon was meeting Red Shirt Guy
and dabbing with him
he was like wat r u doing lmao
because I wanted a picture with him but we're both awkward and i didn't know how to pose or what to do, neither did he, so I just dabbed LOL
but he's such a sweetheart. very chill and down to earth dude. I'm glad I got to meet him!
Idk who that Genji is but I lol'd. Even at Blizzcon, I can never escape that damn Siren!
Genji just showed up out of nowhere while we were talking with "Mei-rista" and yeah, I had to take a picture lol
Blizz Latin American sect, representin Brazil and Peru ya'll
I didn't take too many pictures of cosplayers, but this Lucio is aight tho
At the end of the night, we went around trying to collect friends. Most of which were either still working, or already at the Hilton.
We aint about that life tho. The Hilton was boppin. We saw some people and chatted for a bit, checked the Mariott, and went home lol.
Sunday was a day of recovery:
And lots of spiked eggnog
We literally went out and bought a case of Arrogant Bastard. I still have some.
T'is an ale that demands respect. I'm so serious lol
Aaaaaaand, since the Diablo necromancer jackets were sold out at Blizzcon, my dopest ever hunni-kun ordered these for us as soon as they were back in stock. And they're SO NICE
-yeah. I call him that, stfu.
Sluprin' Ramen is ace
Played the shit out of Super Mario Odyssey at work. I recommend it. It's really fun, and cute. And it's like... never over.
Also hurt myself again while working! But I'm better now. I think I'm just doomed to fall apart.
My dude also prepared oven-roasted cinnamon persimmons with honey and avocado milk and omg it's the best ever
In my last post, I mentioned that his house has like 89476398475 acres of land in his backyard where there's an endless Narnia land of fruit trees and bushes and so like, basically everything grows back there. So he just has fruit forever. And thus, this is how I came to know Persimmons.
omg and when he made us Taiwanese pancakes again T____T MMPF
Also, I just need to take a moment to mention that his mom got me these fuzzy chanclas and they mean the world to me.
Ya'll don't get it, lol but they're like... monumentally a good thing. To me. LOL
I made him watch the old Merry Melodies Donald Duck cartoon with the ostrich because it makes that savoring noise after the balloon pops in its mouth.
That was the night before he had to drop me off. He and his family went to go have Thanksgiving in the Bay Area. I was invited, but I couldn't go- for various reasons.
So, I spent Thanksgiving with my roommate :)
We went to go see Coco
WHICH WAS ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL
And we cried like 6 times throughout the whole thing omg everyone in the theater was crying.
EVERYONE.
It was beautiful.
And then we had Korean for dinner :D
See? No turkey!
And now, I'm working on getting some stuff done on our costumes for the company party ^_^
We're going a little extra for it, and so far putting everything together has been really exciting. I can't wait to share! But it'll have to wait :)
Until then, maybe sooner, but I hope everyone had an awesome Thanksgiving- regardless of who you spent it with. Now I gotta get back to my vault. You guys. I know Animal Crossing just released but Fallout Shelter has gotten so much fun lol
THERE'S TOO MUCH FUN SHIT TO DO ON MY PHONE NOW IDK WTF I'M GONNA DO I NEED TO SLEEP
UGH
i want more persimmons now OKAY BYE
