Lucky 31

When you're little, the idea of being 30 is the scariest impending doom. But I wish there was a way to tell my younger self that OOPS now at 31, things are much more relaxed~ and the peace of mind I've gained from previous experiences has left me giving  ...

It's as though I've reached some kind of goofy enlightenment or became a sociopath. Regardless, 31 feels less ugly and scary than my younger self imagined it to be. Especially since boyfriend gave me the most insane introduction to 31.

HERE IT COMES, THE PHOTOS FROM BORTHDAY WEEKEND

I'm trying a new layout. Hope it doesn't suck. If it does, my bad.

We drove out to San Diego the Thursday before my bday.

The photo above has absolutely nothing to do with that. It's just pretty.
BUT LOOK AT THE BOOBS

I'm not sure what these buildings are for, but they uh. They stand out a little. We passed on them the drive down and... there they are. For your viewing pleasure. I think... you're welcome?

So we finally arrive, and he pulls into this hotel drop off area with fancy chauffeurs and the doors are nice, and I'm like wtf is this.

It's a luxury hotel, and my little peasant brain imploded and wanted to cry

It was too early to check in, so they graciously took our belongings and we walked around a little until the shock wore off.

FUN FACT: The US Grant hotel is haunted. Apparently by Ulysses S. Grant's son's first wife.

I love spooky places. And haunted places. They're exhilarating and humbling. But this was the coolest thing ever. It's impossible to put into words exactly what was going through my head while we were walking around. Other than omfg.

And since we had time to kill, right outside across the street was a dying outdoor mall. With the most peculiar architecture!

Abstract or not, mall is mall. And I sniffed out the necessities.

A text notified him that our suite was ready.

We had to take the other elevator. According to the concierge, it was the one that would take us to our floor.

He got us a suite on the top floor it's absolutely beautiful and by this point, I started crying

Something about me;  I'm not very materialistic.
In fact, I feel I'm undeserving of luxuries. Not because I'm not good enough as a person, but because I try to live humbly, deliberately and graciously with the simple pleasures I already own or happen across. There will always be something better. Always something new to make your life more convenient. And I don't want to tax my happiness to depend so much on that. SO.

When things like this happen, the elation to be somewhere beyond my measure of contentedness is incredibly overwhelming... I'm just so lucky to be here.

As Jeff Kaplan once said to me, "I'm just lucky to be here."

We lounged, loitered, took it all in, and finally decided what to reward our hungry tummies with. Something within walking distance. And something savory.

We returned to explore the hotel. It's massive, there was so much to explore!

That same evening, Chicken told me we should change out into our nicer evening clothes. Before this trip, he suggested I come with some more dress-y up clothes because we were going somewhere nice-r. I didn't HAVE to dress up, but he was bringing a dress shirt.

This is fine. My casual clothes is considered dress up clothes anyway. bam

Where were we going?
Well, it was right behind our hotel. As we neared the venue, I could see the billboard more clearly.

!?

No words.

I love this musical. It resonates with me so much. Erik, the Phantom, is a creature of solitude and misfortune, but  has found beauty (music) and longed to share that with someone. Christine learns this too late, but one of my favorite lines is when she says "This haunted face holds no horror for me now. It's in your soul where the true distortion lies."
It's referring to Erik's anger with people because of how he's been mistreated due to his scars. But she also understands him. And yearns for him too. I SHIP THEM.

I just love it because he's supposed to be grotesque, but he isn't. and she's so chill. and they're perfect for each other. I LOVE THIS MUSICAL

also the movie was shit

ANYWAY yeah I was screaming.

and I LOVED IT. LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVED IT.
Surprise, I actually really enjoy theatre. It's like, less terrible television that I can stomach and be amazed at. It's raw, passionate, and vulnerable. But also strong and captivating.Lace and Arsonic is my favorite. Some day I hope to watch Sweeny Todd live.

BUT THIS WAS DOPE

At the end of the night, as we were heading towards the hotel, I saw a crowd of people standing by an open entrance off to the side of the building. It dawned on me that that's where the cast must exit from. And this is where fans go in for the hunt.

I was so indecisive. Chicken asked if I wanted to wait for the Phantom to come out for a picture. I said no, I just wanna watch. So we waited by a nearby tree and I observed. Cast members came out and guests would approach them eagerly for photo ops. Some cast members were just as excited to greet them, some just wanted to go home and skittered off.
We'd been waiting for a while, when I finally decided I didn't wanna wait any longer, he wasn't coming out. So we turned and headed for the hotel.
Chicken glanced back, I did too. We noticed the tall actor that towered everyone there make his way out from the gate. IT'S HIM. Chicken asked me if I wanted to get a picture with him. There was a lot of back in forth, because I'm shy.

Eventually, I found the courage to walk back, stand there among the other people and patiently wait while he greeted other guests for my turn to come.

YAY :D

Once we got back to the hotel I was so happy lol. Also felt cute ^_^

issa Chicken!

while we were at bath and body works, we picked up this bath bomb thing that is just fucking incredible for so many reasons.

IT'S SPACE

we never had room service delivered to us. So we ordered some at 3am. yolo?

Next day was a day for exploring and seeing stuff.

We went to Balboa Park to check out the museums

And toured the tower in the center of the city!

Those arrow are in its butt.

There was a cannibals exhibit ^_^

Lotta old rich white guys from the UK were cannibals. So that's neat. And of course the Maori.

just in case anyone was curious how many calories we are.

>:D

Annnnd we went to the aero and space exhibit!

Space is neato. We're so tiny and insignificant :)

It was a long day. We were exhausted by the time we got back.

Our last evening in the hotel was super chill. Comfiest bed ever. And a weekend I'll never forget.

As a welcome home, we spoiled ourselves with ramen

And black ball :D

Since then, it's been an awesome 2 months. I have a new work schedule that's opened up my days significantly, and there are so many exciting things that have happened, and will happen very soon.

Blizzcon is this week. I can't believe it. It came so fast. There's SO much I'm excited for. I've been taking a crap ton of photos as usual. Work has been amazing, food has been good, I started yet another project (that I'll probably get discouraged on and not finish) but it's extremely challenging and that's hot. I just need to like, be home to actually work on it. Instead of staying at Chicken's place.

This goes without saying... but I have the best chicken ever.

Anywho. PHEW. Long post is long. I go eat foods again nao ^^
