Been a little bit. It's been kinda busy in Cynthia... land. In a good way, generally. But also bad. Conventionally, good--- just bad for my ID? My feels. You don't know wtf I'm talking about.
Lets start off with what you probably came here to read about-- Canada. Amirite?
WELL IT'S GONNA BE A MINUTE.
Because I have this huge, heavy pit of guilt in my gut every time something awesome happens, or I go do something fun and am enjoying myself. Some of you already know why. If you don't, well, it sucks.
It's like, your loved one is suffering, trapped, and you love them, but... there's nothing you can do about it. And thinking about their situation just makes me spiral into this stupid depression. So I try to put it out of my mind, but then things like Canada happens, and the guilt... its presence is ... very there. There have been things that keep me distracted, and for the moment make me feel something stronger than remorse. But the guilt comes back twice as hard.
Since it all happened last April, I've gotta say that like, my attitude has changed drastically. I used to be all about not giving a shit and doing whatever (to the extent that my weird character flaws allow), but since then-- everything is a let down waiting to happen LOL.
They keep prolonging it. Everything was supposed to be finished once and for all on the 3rd of this month. But, some shit came up and now things are postponed again.
God.
BUT YOU KNOW WHAT. No one wants to hear sad shit sooooooooooooooo LESSGOO
I've been doing some shit, guys.
Yeah, back here all over again.
As much as I hate sewing, being in fabric shops is so calming lol. And the selections are so fun to go through and touch and play with. My favorite part is all the ideas that start going through my head with the different kinds of fabrics I see. This is both fun and annoying, but 98% of those ideas will never come to fruition. WHICH IS OKAY but also a little like.... :(
I found MOSTLY what I was looking for.
There was no way I was going to DTLA, so this spot was good.
And way cheaper than Joann's bs prices
Aaaaaand, since I'm sewing a dress and putting armor together, I had to do a thing.
Here's my trusty roommate, being my assistant.
tools.
so pro
Made a ghetto mannequin lol
1. i couldn't find one my size. I'm petite, and a small sized mannequin is "2-4"
I'll swim in that. kind of.
Especially with this dress, it's kinda super fitted at the top, so...
2. I'm not gonna drop $160+ for a maybe customizeable body form when I can just make one at home that's be my exact measurements. like
no
fuck off.
GRANTED, he was kinda too generous in some areas than others with the tape, BUT IT WORKS. WHATEVER.
3 pillows and a grey long sleeved tunic were sacrificed in the making of this bodyform.
but whatever, worth it.
It's meeeee! In all my tiny-ness!
Here's some of the stuff I picked up to make the outfit.
Fucking bullshit i hate sewing god
but made the stupid shirt thingie.
I was trying to find the jersey fabric needed for it, and they had it in EVERY OTHER COLOR except for black.
but whatever.
And I'm dismantling my old grey jersey dress for this.
Doing the patterns for this is stupid. Like, I'm still genuinely annoyed.
Omg I totally catwoman'd this, too. Those vinyl accents came from my old Leechwoman jacket that I just cut up and Frankenstein'd onto another cosplay.
It was huge on me, and I like the shine on it. But I'm still undecided on whether I'm going to keep that or use them as a pattern for the other fabric I got.
Like, I HATE this right now. I hate looking at it. It's awful. It's an outline of where everything's gonna go kinda? but like.... UGH. UGH, I HATE THIS SHIT LOL.
Not to mention, I haven't even started on her arm yet. Or her weapon. GOD.
MOVING ON.
Smiley :)
and lengua tacos. ^_^
He knows my weaknesses >_<
because then we went to get boba
At LABOBATORY
In Alhambraaaa
I'm in that area too much =\
LOOK AT THE NAMES THO
His shirt says suck my balls
i appreciate his shirt
The owner is also a magician, who randomly decided to bust out a bunch of tricks for us.
It was amazing.
The power of distraction, man.
Smiley was way more observant than I and noticed some stuff. I was too enthralled to look away.
but so dope. That place is awesome. Next time I'm up there... definitely stopping by again!
THOSE SHIRTS THO
ALRIGHT.
Cynthia. WTF were you doing in Canada land?
Well, you see folks, Trump got elected president and I went to check it out to see if I could live there.
Just kidding.
It was a work trip, kinda. My friend's a youtuber, and he was looking for someone to shoot for him.
I've known him for a few years from the con circuit, and we're tight so.
Cons, man. I've made some of my closest friends from attending cons. It's pretty amazing.
BUT ANYWAY. I like holding cameras, and traveling to Canada seemed probably like a fun thing to do. (foreshadow: i said yes)
I couldn't believe it though, was in a little bit of a shock. He's asked me in the past if I'd be down to help shoot, I always said I would be. Just wasn't expecting to need a passport for it. Yeah.
ANYWHO
So we flew out the day Trump became president. It wasn't on purpose either-- totally coincidental but funny how it worked out. That weekend was insane in the US anyway, I'm glad I wasn't here for any of that shit.
Longish flight.
Once we got there, we got our shit and waited for our ride.
It was cute. He was there with a sign that read FrostCon welcomes you.
SO SWEET
The ride back from the airport was long, but I enjoyed it a lot more than I ever expected.
The scenery reminded me a lot of back home in Pennsylvania. In the outskirts.
These are shitty captures.
idc.
Nostalgia hit me a little, because we were after all on the east coast. And I was the closest I'd been to my dad in 2 years.
When we got there, we settled in and kicked it for a bit.
The trip left us tired and hungry.
The con staff suggested we go to Jack Astor's across the street, because they had poutine!
Which was one of the things we wanted to try. Soooo...
It was noommmyyyy
I was gone less than a day and I already missed playing Overwatch, lol.
He got a little excited and drew Overwatch art all over the table.
Please note Lucio using his ult.
So, yeah. We were shooting for a con; Frostcon to be exact.
Dippy. I'm talking about Dippy.
The next day, Saturday, we arrived kinda late, but were greeted warmly by everyone.
EVERYONE'S SO NICE THERE.
And that Dr. Evil cosplayer wouldn't break character. It was amazing. His name's Dr. Stevil lol
That's Dippy.
The red one.
Those baby heads upset me.
Omg Swedish Chef guy
would not
break character
at all
ever
unless he took off his hat.
which was like, all of 2 times
that i saw
all weekend.
he's the best.
One thing that I forgot about while tending to booths at cons was how little you eat throughout the day, lol. But the con staff was so accommodating and awesome. They worked so hard for everyone to feel at home and comfortable!
And I met a horror cosplayer! He showed me his Pinhead cosplay and I fangirled =\
A Pinhead, Chatterer, or Pyramid Head cosplay will make a girl weak, lemme tell ya x___x
I think I'm still in shock about the whole thing. Like I can't believe that weekend happened.
LOOK AT THIS BEAUTIFUL SHIT
The maple leaf on the 100 bill smells liKE MAPLE IT SMELLS LIKE MAPLE I SNIFFED IT
YOU SCRATCH IT AND IT SMELLS LIKE FUCKING MAPLE
Saturday was productive.
We mostly filmed all day. Was fracking starving
And then Sunday we knocked out the rest of the footage.
He also did an interview with Dr. Stevil!
I'm stupid and giggle too loud.
It's a good interview, he answers a lot of questions that I see people bring up all the time regarding what he does in his videos. Kinda breaks things down. Watch eet.
AND LOOK AT THIS ALICE
I thought that was a real guitar, but it's foam lol.
omg ew...
ew that hairpiece
Omg there was this like, improv thing too.
I couldn't stop laughing, Dippy was being ridiculous
And by the end of it all, at closing ceremonies on Sunday, it was probably the most bittersweet I've ever felt about a con.
Out of all the cons I've been to, Frostcon is probably one of my most beloved experiences and favorite cons.
The kindness, positive atmosphere, the close-knit family vibe, the cosplayers were all so lovely and friendly. And how close everyone was... the staff... with us, with other guests... I was astounded at how much love and hard work they put into Frostcon. They drove insane distances and jumped through a shit ton of hoops to make the con happen, and they made us feel so at home and so welcomed.
I got attached, lol. By far, one of the coolest experiences I've had.
There was no drama, no stuck up cliques or elitism, no holier than thou attitudes or people acting 'cosfamous.' Everyone was just there to have a good time, and everyone that we interacted with was so friendly and down to shoot.
It was definitely an emotional evening for several reasons, but man o man. I won't forget Frostcon. Made an impact on me for sure. I legit miss those guys, lol.
By the end of closing ceremonies, I returned to my sweet delicious taro boba milk tea that was waiting for me.
That evening, I think we went around and looked for a few more cosplayers to shoot, wrapped, and relaxed for a bit before we met up with the staff for one last dinner together before everyone went their separate ways.
And here is the end result!
This one is long, lol. But it's cute ^_^
The next morning, we had until around 4:30 to go around and see the city. And that's exactly what we did.
I ate all of this I hate myself
We drove around with two other guests, and the con chairs and went to visit a few places.
They said there are these two twisty buildings, the Monroe towers, and the way they described them was so cool.
I couldn't imagine it, but on our drive we went right past them!!!
And I got to try on a legit winter cloak.
Who has that?
Canadians. Canadians have winter cloaks.
because it was COLD AS FUK
:D
We walked around and did some sight seeing after checking out the mall.
This is a replica of Mississauga, the city we were exploring :)
LE SIGH
would've loved to go skating!
but we were limited on time
That little flame sculpture reminded me of Overwatch, lol
Gargoyles are so cool omfg :O
THE LEGENDS ARE TRUE.
CANADA HAS BAGGED MILK
It was a lovely day.
Still can't believe I was there.
We headed back to the airport, went thru all the crap, and funny enough, I was detained kinda.
In customs, my info was flagged or something, so they brought me back to bag inspection, and made me wait there for 30 minutes while asking me over and over if random bags belonged to me.
None of them did. I think there was some stuff flagged because of what happened with my mom. And they were just being really strict about it. My bag never arrived to bag inspection, and they eventually let me go. It was retarded.
Dippy was waiting for me at the gate. The one guy was so rude to him!
We were both led to go in there because we were traveling together, obviously. But the one customs guy was a total dick to him for no reason and made him leave.
But yeah, aside from that our flight was fine.

My bag made it. Ironically, Dippy's bag did not. (they inspected his luggage while I was there)
it got detained but he got it delivered like 2 days later. Frickin a, man!
God.
What a trip.
Mochi was PISSED at me for leaving. My housemate had been feeding her while I was gone, and when I walked in she came at me so fast lol. I tried to snuggled her
She just kicked my ass
But yeah. That's why I was gone.
And idk if he reads this or not, but I can't extend my gratitude and thanks enough for the opportunity Dippy's given me. Not only was traveling to Canada so amazing, but I genuinely enjoyed holding a camera and shooting. Like, I LIKED it. I could do that forever. It took some getting used to at first obvs, but idk. I like being behind the lens-- way more than in front of it. I like framing stuff and recording and capturing stuff and... yeah. Was dope. And Canada was dope. Everything was dope. Thank you, Dippy. Truly. I don't know how to express my gratitude other than like, giving you tacos or something. Jk.
I keep thinking about it, but maybe this year I'll invest in a real camera and be less of an ass with what I capture. Or maybe I'll still be assy, but it'll just look nicer? lol.
And yeah, sorry I didn't get more photos of the actual con. Was working :P But I hope everyone enjoyed the video and interview and stuff and and and... yeah!
I did see a vendor that I'm going to totally buy stuff from. She had stuffed boba milk tea pillows and they were soooo cute! Here's her Etsy!
I want the taro one lol waaaaah. SOON.
(I'm drinking boba milk tea right now ugh)
omg it's 2am.
I have class at 7 tomorrow.
NEXT POST: Anime Los Angeles (which was actually in Ontario, idk why it's called ALA?)
OKAY GOODNIGHT BYE.
