San Franny

For readers who don't know, I used to live in San Francisco from 2008-2009. The reason I left was to be supportive of Rot rejoining Psyclon Nine (and we were offered somewhere to live, no deposit, considerably cheaper). It's extremely expensive to live in SF. To move back I'd have to have a bunch of roommates, or just live in a shitty part of SF. Neither one really has me rushing back.

My friend from High School moved there recently, who I saw on my last visit to PA a year ago. It was a great excuse to re-visit SF, haha. And to see him again, of course! :P AND SO I DID. We went halfsies on the plane tickets and I marched my ass into that airport and dealt with it.

That's Jordan. Weirdo.

I arrived late actually, Friday evening, because I had missed my flight. Well, I actually didn't, but I arrived a few minutes too late to check in. It was obvious to me the guy at the counter was enamored with me, and fortunately, of his own accord, gave me a nicer spot on another flight free of charge. No complaints. Unfortunately, he spent a lot of time talking to me and conveniently messing up the tickets, but I guess it was a small price to pay to arrive in SF before it got too late.

I had a connecting flight in San Diego. No problems with TSS in LA, but SD somehow saw something LA didn't and opened up my bag to check it out. Turned out to be a clutter of quarters in a smaller compartment that they thought was a gun or something. -__- actually I don't know that for sure, but that's exactly where they checked it.
The weekend there pretty much consisted of almost nothing but going out to eat/drink and socialize. Which is weird to me because I do everything but. I was introduced to some of his peers, who were friendly and not douchebaggy- always appreciated. I also learned how to play Netrunner! It's a two player game. Two factions: One's defensive, one's offensive. If the defensive side exposes the offensive side before offensive infiltrates defensive, Defense wins. And vise versa. But it's Corporations vs. Hackers themed. Very strategic and fun.

Ted is a pro Netrunner-er. He was coaching me against Jordan.
Also, dreadstaches.

While I was there, already the atmosphere felt friendlier. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like people in SF are just all around nicer and friendlier than people in LA, who to me always seem to be in a rush and feel they're too attractive to care about anyone else.

Mateo and Irakli (left) both from outside the states, and Jordan. Irakli got really drunk that night, and I regretfully publish these without any footage of his hilarious stupor, complete with a Georgian accent and broken English. While we were on our way out to look for our taxi, Arakli walked out into the walkway, on his phone with the cab driver, as the light turned green. He was standing in the middle of traffic waving his arms in the air as cars drove around him.
Mateo and I were on the other side of the intersection shouting frantically, while Jordan helplessly watched from another corner, just then realizing that Irakli has wandered off into traffic. The whole cab ride back was mostly Irakli spouting random nothingness and thoughts, followed by "is fucking assole!"

When neared his street, it was an uphill drive with no parking spots on either side. He didn't like the street. "This street is fucking assole street!" The cab driver just laughed understandingly. It got real quiet when he left, haha.

GDC was also about to start that week, so Jordan took us to meet up with some of his peers from Philly who were attending GDC. I felt out of place, but had a full tummy and was content.

Other than that, we didn't do much. Like I said, we just went out to places and played Netrunner. Oh, apparently IPA's make me sick. I hadn't eaten all day and I had two of them = me throwing up. Never again. I don't know anything about beers, but they were suggested to me and it tasted better to me than some of the other stuff I've had. Nope. Never again. Also I think I forgot my belt at one of the spots we were at. :(

Those garlic fries were so good.

Anywho, SF was a nice escape. It made me nostalgic and really miss living there. One day, maybe. Not just yet, though.
